What can you do before you have a book?

Hi Reader!

When you think about the book you’re writing, how do you feel?

Excited?

Tense?

Scared?

All those feelings are normal. Books are big projects, and those projects have major emotional weight.

And with all of that, the question of how to market the book you’re writing can add even more tension to the mix.

Many of the authors I work with hate marketing. They see it as antithetical to writing a book. And they’re right... if it’s done poorly.

Marketing is the bridge that forms a connection between authors and readers.

We talk about connections in this week’s blog post. In the upcoming weeks, we’ll talk more about marketing, planning, and the future of your book. I hope you join me and read each one.

Until next time,

Hello Reader! We’re almost halfway through November. Christmas is right around the corner. I can feel it in every winter breeze and warm scarf. For me, Christmas time starts with making Christmas pudding, which needs to sit for a month. Books also need time to rest. Like pudding, turning a manuscript into a book requires many hands. What are your plans for...

Hi Reader, For the first part of Connie Inglis's course, she gave us the prompt "Why I Write." She did more than that. She gave us an hour-and-a-half-long class and a gorgeous workbook filled with questions. You might need to enable images in your email to see this. Thumbnails of the first pages of the memoir workbook. I'd love to show you more, but I'm not allowed! I write for several reasons. In times like this, my primary goal is to convey an idea. That could be a fact, a feeling, or a...

😉 I have a riddle for you: I’m the first, But not the oldest. My brother Jeffrey is the last, But not the youngest. Who am I ? 🍼 Jeffrey and I (and our brother Tom and our nephew Scott) were born at the Redvers Hospital. 🖼️ In the picture here, I’m standing with my parents on the spot where it all began. 🏥Mom and Dad’s new home is on the site of the former Redvers Hospital, which is now across the street. Dad and Mom and I on the spot where it all began. 🎂 Friday was Mom’s birthday. This...
